Our platform provides a unique way for New Yorkers to build a sense of community in their buildings. Many buildings have a budget to host building parties, but often, people don’t think that these are not authentic and are even a bit awkward. Our idea is to offer a platform that connects building managers to local artits in order to move these events to the building stoop, allowing people to enjoy the art in a more natural and community focused environment.

Beautifying Stoops AI Depiction

The group began by interviewing three New Yorkers each and identifying major problems that these people faced on their daily lives. Based on their inputs we each crafted a problem statement with the help of fellow Columbia University text-based AI generators. These problem statements were then compared and fine tuned throughout the project, our final problem statement was: In New York City, the lack of accessible community spaces leads to an absence of a sense of community. This issue impacts city's well-being and creates a barrier for a cohesive urban environment where individuals feel connected, supported, and engaged with their surroundings. This problem is exacerbated by a prevalence of private environments, urban density, and a lack of safety in current community environments.

Different Solutions to the Problem

Abandoned Buildings into Community Centers AI Depiction

We then came up with three different solutions that aimed to tackle this problem statement. We had setbacks regarding our problem statement and solutions that we loved that had to be dropped behind because they weren't tackling the root problem. In the end we worked with refurbishing parking lots into playgrounds, repurposing abandoned buildings into community centers, and our most voted idea (by 11 other interviewees) beautifying stoops. I was personally responsible for the playground into parks physical prototype, AI prototypes, and work on the stoops app original design.

AI Depiction

After amazing workshops both for prototyping and for constructing a Pitch (Founder of Pete's Wicked Ale presentation) our group then constructed a an elevator pitch and final prototype which was then presented to the class. We then made a video which was meant to fully show the product experience and shared with our classmates who shared their own and evaluated ours. It was truly a valuable experience, and it was exciting to see the problems and solutions that other groups had iterated.

Final Evaluation

We then, as a group, finalized the final details of our idea, including a business model, future plans, and the full model of how it works/affects all of its stakeholders. It was great not only to learn about how different stakeholders are differently affected depending on the design. Below there is a link to download our final Design Document that fully explains the .comm platform.

My Three Biggest Constributions

These three elements below are elements of the project that I took the initiative on and consider to be my three greatest individual contributions to the project:

01.png

I was personally in charge of editing doing 100% of the it. I was also responsible for most of the footage

02.png

The problem statement originally came from the draft that I had gotten from interviews

03.png

The AI and Physical prototypes took a lot of effort and hard work  they all portrayed solutions to customers well
